This project is to provide additional teaching accommodation to serve a growing secondary school. The school is blessed with large amounts of external space, and so as part of a collaborative site visit a number of sites were considered and analysed, with a site consisting of 3 disused netball courts selected. The brief was to provide as many classrooms as possible within a disclosed budget. As lead consultant, designs were developed (alongside B&M who assessed cost) based upon the principles of modular construction to initially provide 6 no. Classrooms and considered landscaping, together with a master plan framework which could be continued as budget allowed in the future to fully utilise the site. The scheme is also anchored by the use of renewable technologies such as PV panels and an air source heat pump to create a net zero scheme which as well as increasing its own sustainability credentials will significantly improve the overall school’s self sufficiency in terms of the cost of energy.
